response to course material...

We have read hamlet. And well that was fun. It was hard to annotate but fun the read and I enjoyed rereading the book. But not annotating. I was just thinking about what else we did this time and really don't think we did anything else because hamlet was so hard. And long. And boring.
We also had our final which was a lot more fun then i thought it would be. Since it wasn't just a repeat of the terms test. I actually enjoyed taking a scene from Hamlet and breaking it down and analyzing how it can be interpreted differently. We also had to act and to my surprise a lot of people could. I was also surprised that I could tell all of the differences in the scene that other people presented. And it was interesting to see how other people interpreted the scenes.
Still on Hamlet, kind of. Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead I was gone during most of the reading but I have been catching up. Its a really funny book. really exploiting the limits of a play. Especially the part where he screams fire and says that he's just showing the limits of free speech.

  1. Hi Emily!
I agree that Hamlet was fun, but I actually thought that the annotations weren't too bad. I also thought that he final was fun, and tons better than the terms test. Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead was actually a very interesting book. The ideas and themes that Stoppard had within the book was actually quite mind blowing. I thought that this play was harder to annotate than Hamlet, even though the speech was longer. What did you think of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern after reading the whole play?

  2. I agree that I did not like annotating Hamlet! It took such a long time, because the novel was long, and it was pretty hard to understand as well. Also, I definitely liked this final better than the original idea of taking the terms test again! I was surprised, like you, and how well I could understand the different interpretations people had of different scenes, and it made me feel like I understood Hamlet a lot more. I agree that Rosencrantz and Guildenstern was a lighter read, and more comical, therefore more enjoyable.

  3. Hi Emily!
Annotating Hamlet took so long! After a while of annotating I felt like I was repeating myself a lot. I'm also intrigued by the many different things that Stoppard included in Rosencrantz and Guildenstern that convey a deeper meaning. I'm still having trouble wrapping my head around all of it. I also missed a lot of reading it in class, so annotating it on my own was quite difficult.
