This article is definitely taking the side that Obama should win. There
are lots of details about how Obama the statistics say he will like how "The electoral vote margin will likely be 281 for Obama and 257 for
Romney." The author of the article has a tone that suggests he also
wants Obama to win. Not only does he try to get most readers to like Obama he
gives plenty of reasons why we should not like Romney. By giving us the imaged
that Romney had no “strength of character.”
Hi Emily! The directions for this prompt say to choose three DIDLS so make sure you do that. But not going to lie, I know it gets tasking and I didn't use three on one of mine. And maybe try to use more examples next times. Does this piece persuade you into thinking Obama will win?
ReplyDeleteI've seen this come up more than once now, and I thought I might address it here. I am not seeing anything in the assignment description that says we should include our personal reaction to the articles we read. Correct me if I missed something, but the assignment is looking for an objective essay about how the author uses DIDLS to accomplish his/her purpose.

Hi Emily! Try organizing your thoughts into multiple paragraphs, one about each specific technique you want to talk about, like details, diction, etc. Then under each paragraph you could have an example or two. This will give your argument much more strength, and make it easier to understand.
ReplyDeleteI think your main problem here is that you found a rather shallow and straight-forward article. When the assignment says to "choose an online article that has a strong voice," it is trying to help you by making sure you have something to write about.
ReplyDeleteI like to skim through a large batch of editorials, eliminating them tournament style until I have one left before I begin writing. That way, I don't end up with something I thought would be interesting but turned out to be difficult to write an essay about.
